More on Rachel

I am a nineteen year-old aspiring photographer from Brisbane, Australia. The fields I am pursuing are fashion, beauty and editorial. I call myself self-taught, as I initially began teaching myself photography at the beginning of 2009. In 2010 I attended a Bachelor of Photography course, but have since dropped out of university, finding that the course had shown me nothing new, and that I was able to teach myself at a faster rate.

I am inspired by nature, colours, eras gone by (such as the 40s and 50s) and film noir. I try to have a romantic and classic feel to my work. I rigorously strive for charm and taste within my photographs, as these attributes appeal to me more than the ‘grungey’ look which many young photographers seem to use these days. And although that seems to be the more popular look right now, I would prefer to create photos which I am happy with, rather than those which can get a lot of comments on photo-sharing websites.

I work with a 5D mkII, an 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8 and a 70-200mm f/2.8. I tend to use natural light, but occasionally I use studio flashes, reflectors and/or speedlite flashes. My dream is to shoot couture and high fashion clothing and have editorials published in large magazines such as Vogue and i-D. I would also love to be able to work internationally, but as long as I can make enough off fashion and beauty photography to have a comfortable life for myself, I will be happy being able to do what I love.
